Hike to Jenkinson Lake
This is a great hike to start the hiking season!
Hike details: We will be hiking the loop around Jenkinson Lake at Sly Park in Pollock Pines. This is an 8.3 mile hike with rolling terrain. There are no major climbs but the course does have a number of hills. If you are reasonably fit and can hike 8+ miles at a pace of at least 3mph, this is a great hike for you!
What to bring: This hike is not an all-day trip. The hike is usually completed in three hours max, so a snack and a couple bottles of water or sports drink should be all that you’ll need for this one. Check the Pollock Pines weather on the morning of the hike to see what clothing layers are appropriate, and of course good boots or shoes for hiking on a hilly trail are a must.
Transportation: We will carpool for this hike. When signing up, please let us know if you are willing to drive. It’s about a 45-minute drive to the trailhead, and there is a $5 parking fee. We will meet at 7am in the front parking lot at Lakeside.
To RSVP: Emailing Mike Smith at michael.smith16@att.net with any questions and to RSVP. We cap our hikes at 12 people, so RSVP right away!

Food Drive
Local mission partner Twin Lakes Food Bank (TLFB) needs help. Need at TLFB has skyrocketed—about 30 percent more than this time last year—and need continues to grow. Just in the last two months, the organization, which routinely served 200 families a week, has begun providing food for 300 families each week.
TLFB has asked for the city’s help with an emergency food drive to collect 30,000 pounds of food, and Lakeside has committed to take on 10 percent of that goal. We are collecting 3,000 pounds of food to help provide nourishment to our community. One brown bag of groceries is about 13 pounds, so our goal is to collect about 230 bags.
Lakeside, you have blown past our goal! We still have one more Sunday for collections, and you have already donated 3,977 pounds! Well done, and thank you for your generosity!
