Winter Shelter: Feb 19–March 5
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Matthew 25:35–36
With its 2,000 references to caring for the poor, the Bible is definitive in God’s heart for them and in our responsibility to the vulnerable. Lakeside is steadfast in our mission to demonstrate the love of Jesus, including our yearly participation in the HART Winter Shelter for the homeless.
Hosted by various community churches and managed by HART of Folsom, the HART Winter Shelter provides three months of temporary overnight lodging, along with dinner and breakfast, for as many as twenty homeless guests at a time.
Lakeside will be hosting two weeks of the shelter. Guests will be provided with a cot, sleeping bag, warm dinner, and bagged breakfast, in addition to an opportunity to shower.
Each week requires about 70 volunteers to help:
-Make and serve food and clean up
-Serve food provided by restaurants and clean up
-Oversee guests overnight
-Launder clothes and towels
-Escort guests upstairs for showers
Show the love of Jesus to those most vulnerable by signing up to help.
