Building a Library for Teachers in Malawi
Felt called to act out her faith and serve the people of Africa, Maribeth Sexton packed up her life in Folsom and moved to Malawi in 2008. Giving new meaning to the term “influencer,” she founded WAY Ministries, which is making a big impact in the nation’s education system through its schools and teacher training programs. “Poverty will be eradicated with effective education and social-economic development,” she says.
Why Build a Library?
The organization is well respected and is making great strides in transforming education in the nation. WAY’s teacher training college, which trained hundreds of teachers last year, is in the process of being accredited, and a physical library is a core component to receiving accreditation. The library is 85 percent complete, with just about 70 key textbooks necessary to finish it, opening the door to accreditation and providing an amazing resource to teachers and teachers in training.
How We Can Help
Proper and effective training of teachers who are committed to advocating, protecting, and educating kids is essential in raising up a nation of children who can reach their full potential in Jesus, AND WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HELP! We tend to take libraries for granted here in the US, but life in Malawi is different, and WAY is grateful for the generosity of others who are investing in making their library a reality.
