Thanksgiving at San Francisco City Impact
Since 1984 City Impact has been serving the city of San Francisco and the Tenderloin District—28,000 residents living in a one-square-mile area that is plagued by poverty, crime, addiction, mental health issues, and an oversized homeless population.
City Impact, a Lakeside mission partner, is dedicated to the needs of the Tenderloin, last year providing more than 40,000 meals and nearly 6,000 bags of groceries to residents of the impoverished area. The group also runs programs for the District’s youth population, including ministries for academic and spiritual support.
In previous years, Lakeside has sent groups of adults and students to volunteer in various capacities with City Impact. Lakesider Kevin Knutson has participated a few times in City Impact’s Thanksgiving outreach. “Many of the residents there have no family, and for a brief minute we can be a little light in their darkness. To see them smile and let them know that they are loved is what this is all about.”
We are excited to again send Lakeside volunteers this Thanksgiving! Your kids are welcome to volunteer alongside you, making this an awesome opportunity for families. Volunteers will serve from 9:30am-2pm on Thanksgiving. Upon registration, choose where you would like to serve:
Help assemble 1,000 meals
Deliver meals to isolated residents (must be 16+)
Facilitate carnival games for kids
Serve the homeless in a sit-down meal
All outreaches are volunteer led and funded. Use Lakeside promo code Lakeside21 for a discount and a total cost of $10 each. There is also a $15 parking garage cost. All volunteers must wear masks both indoors and outdoors.
