In the Round…But Why?

For the next several weeks we will be changing the chair and stage arrangement in the auditorium.  Some of us get a little bit of acid reflux as soon as we read the word “change.”  Others get excited by the prospect of things being different than what we are used to. But regardless of how you feel about change, there is usually a reason for it, so I just want to take a moment to share some of the “why” behind changing up our seating arrangement.

When we set up in “the round,” we get a chance to worship together face-to-face instead of side-by-side. There is something significant and powerful about a group of people gathering together with a singular purpose in mind. This has never been more apparent than after a year of “social distancing.”  When we sit in the round, you cannot ignore the people around you.  We get to make eye contact and smile at one another.  We get to see each other’s mouths moving as we sing and worship Jesus. We get to see that we are in this thing together.  This is what a worship gathering is all about.  It’s about the fact that we are gathered TOGETHER with one UNIFIED purpose in mind...to worship King Jesus and recognize that we are not on this journey alone.

This weekend, make sure to smile at someone across from you and let them know they aren’t on this journey alone.  Lakeside is, in fact, a place for YOU, wherever you are.
