Transforming Lives in Mozambique
Becoming a follower of Jesus in Mozambique means ostracization from family and friends, yet Lakeside mission partners Wellington and Tatiane Barros recently baptized thirteen new believers in the waters of Mozambique--the people choosing Jesus over the possibility of being cast off.
Feeling led to minister to the people of Africa, Wellington and Tatiane moved their young family from Brazil to Mozambique, a primarily Muslim country in southeastern Africa, two years ago. The couple works for mission organization WorldVenture to share the gospel of Jesus with the people of the country.
Wellington runs a goat and chicken farm, in which he can help provide the impoverished country with food, teach business practices, and form personal relationships. He leads three men’s Bible studies in his home, and Tatiane leads a women’s study, where they both aim to build genuine relationships and lead people to Jesus.
As more people give themselves to Christ, their group quietly celebrates those who begin their journeys with Jesus. At the most recent baptism of thirteen, the group walked thirty minutes to a remote beach where they could honor the commitment of the new believers without drawing attention to themselves.
Life in Mozambique is difficult, yet Wellington and Tatiane are dedicated to living there as missionaries and introducing the people to the love of Jesus, while also raising their two young sons and brand new baby girl. With threats of Isis six hours away, an unstable economy, often unclean drinking water, and the constant possibility of theft, the Barros family needs your prayers. Please pray for their safety, their stamina, and their mission to transform as many people as possible into followers of Jesus.
