Covenant Partnership

2023-2024

An Invitation from Pastor Brian

How can I become a
Covenant Partner?

Any follower of Jesus who is actively participating with Lakeside Church is invited to become a Lakeside Covenant Partner. In autumn each year, Lakeside opens a season of making or renewing the Covenant Partnership. In making this annual covenant, we’re committing to live out Lakeside’s mission and values every day. The value of such a recurring covenant is that it tends to encourage us to keep moving forward with Jesus and with his church, and to encourage others to do the same.

1 Corinthians 12:12-14

“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.”

Every Jesus follower who participates with Lakeside is invited into covenant through the following process:

  • Prayerfully consider the commitments.

  • Personally commit to our shared mission and kingdom behaviors.

  • Complete the Covenant Partner form.

Covenant Commitments

Together we commit to…

Lakeside’s Mission: To transform as many people as possible into followers of Jesus.

Lakeside’s Statement of Faith: We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Gen. 1:26, Mt. 28:19-20)

  • We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. He is true God and true man. He was born of a virgin, died on a cross for the sins of humanity, rose bodily from death, and ascended into heaven. We believe his promise to return to earth for his disciples. (Jn. 1:1-14, Jn. 14:1-9, Ph. 2:5-11, 1 Th. 4:13-18)

  • We believe the Holy Spirit convicts the world and indwells and empowers the believers in Christ. (Jn. 16:8-14, Rom. 8:26, Acts 2:38-39, Eph. 5:18)

  • We believe that all human beings have sinned and now have salvation available to them by God's grace through faith in Christ. (Jn. 14:6, Rom. 3:10-23, Titus 3:5)

  • We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God. It reveals God himself, and his will for humanity. (Ps. 19:7-11, Isa. 40:8, 2 Tim. 3:15-17)

FAQs

a

What does covenant mean?

A covenant is an agreement between two or more partners. In the Old Testament, God initiated a covenant with Israel. Eventually God initiated a new covenant, available to everyone through Jesus. At Lakeside we renew our covenant each year to reaffirm our commitment to Jesus and to one another.

r

Why enter a covenant with Lakeside?

Committing our life to Jesus and to others in community is what it means to be the church. Our covenant conveys that. The Apostle Paul describes the metaphor of a body and how the members work together for God’s kingdom.

You may decide that Covenant Partnership is not for you. That’s okay. We still want to be a part of your spiritual journey and want you to be a part of Lakeside.

w

Is the covenant between God and me or Lakeside and me?

Both. As his people, we enter a covenant with God. As a local church, we enter a covenant with each other.
