Brad Franklin – Lead Pastor

Brad Franklin is the founding pastor of Lakeside Church. He came to Folsom in 1987 as a church planter and began Lakeside with a telemarketing campaign. His ministry has been blessed and Lakeside continues to grow steadily offering several Sunday worship gatherings. He leads a team of dedicated pastors and ministry directors. Lakeside relocated to the present 28-acre site in Folsom in September of 2001.

Brad belongs to the Folsom Chamber of Commerce and is active in the annual National Day of Prayer Breakfast.

Brad and his wife, Donna, are the parents of three children – Breck, Bryce, and Bethany. When not at work, Brad plays men’s softball, runs occasionally in various competitions, plays hysterically bad golf and even jumped out of a plane (with a parachute).

Quote: “But while the subject humbles the mind, it also expands it. He who often thinks of God, will have a larger mind than the man who simply plods around the narrow globe… The most excellent study for expanding the soul, is the science of Christ, and Him crucified, and the knowledge of the Godhead in the glorious Trinity. Nothing will so enlarge the intellect, nothing so magnify the whole soul of man, as a devout, earnest, continued investigation of the great subject of God.” -C.H Spurgeon- (Jan 7, 1855)

Carl Rettinger – Director of Middle School Ministry

Many words have been used to describe Carl, but we’ve chosen not to use those here, instead, we’ll just give you the facts. He was raised among the orchards and computer nerds pioneers of Silicon Valley. As an “active” child, his parents used sports to try and exhaust him, so they could sleep at night (what goes around, comes around).

Carl’s religious confusion began early by going to a Lutheran school, and attending a Catholic church. After 10 years as an alter boy, a promising career as a priest was cut short by his realization that priests can’t marry. So he sought other means to serve God.

In high school, a group of friends invited Carl to check out Young Life (an interdenominational organization of crazy people who love Jesus and students), and he was hooked on youth ministry. He began helping out with junior high ministry, ministry to physically and mentally challenged students, and, in college, was a youth intern.

Soon after graduating from Chico State, Carl was fortunate very fortunate to marry his college sweetheart, Laura. They moved to Los Gatos, where he was the interim youth minister at the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos. After one glorious year there, they ran as fast as they could back to their old college jobs as Julie and Isaac on the Love Boat (if you’re a middle school student – ask your parents), and spent 3 more years running the children’s and youth programs for Norwegian Cruise Line.

For some strange reason, they ended this idyllic dream job to move to Portland, Oregon to guide white water rafting and rock climbing trips for an outdoor ministry. Carl quickly enrolled Laura in the Masters in Teaching program at George Fox University, so that at least one of them would have a real job.

After a couple long, dark, wet years in the Northwest, Carl received a phone call from Journey Church in Folsom (isn’t there a prison there?) Through a series of circumstances that only God is smart enough to finagle, he ended up taking the Youth Pastor role there in September 1998.

In 2004, Carl jumped into the Real Estate cesspool, er industry, as a mortgage planner and started attending Lakeside Church with his better half and his three sons. During a mission trip to Africa with Lakeside’s Ikon students in 2007, he thought to himself, “Self, you were created to work with students – so do it.” Over about a year and a half of praying, searching, and thinking – he ended up right here at Lakeside, working with middle school students in the church and in the community that he knows and loves.

Carl’s vision is to build a healthy, solid ministry that equips parents and leaders to partner in transforming students into passionate, productive followers of Christ. He also believes the most important thing he does is to equip and encourage parents, leaders, and students to live more fully for Christ and pass that on to everyone around them.

Lisa Tuter – Director of Inreach

Lisa TuterAs Director of InReach, Lisa serves and guides the Women and Senior Ministries while also directing the Pathway of a Disciple, an instrument that promotes spiritual growth amongst Christ followers. She is devoted to caring for and equipping as many Lakesiders as possible, helping them to grow in faith and maturity while journeying on the path of discipleship. Lisa loves it when the grace and truth of the bible come alive within the hearts and minds of those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ.

After being married a couple years, Lisa and her husband, Chris moved to Folsom in 1994, where they began to grow their family. They have two beautiful children, Kayla (16) and Blake (13), who continually remind Mom not to take herself so seriously. In 2006, the Tuter family began attending Lakeside and has called it “home” since.

Lisa joined the Lakeside team in 2011 after a seven-year tenure of leading and teaching in a paraministry called Community Bible Study. It is during her role as Teaching Director that Lisa experienced and embraced the fruit of servant-leadership that Jesus modeled, and it is an integral part of her ministry today.

Lisa is “home grown”—raised in Roseville, CA and a graduate from UC Davis in 1992. She loves road bike rides on neighboring rural roads and is often found in her kitchen experimenting with culinary creations. She is convinced that joy comes from a heart of gratitude and strives for the place that Brennan Manning calls the “impulsive and spontaneous, the lavish and impractical, the heroic and extraordinary, the unrestrained and incalculable bursts of generosity that cry out, ‘It is right to give You thanks and praise’.”

Favorite Pastimes: Date nights with Chris; listening to Kayla’s Folsom High School Jazz Choir; watching Blake play for the Jr. Vista Eagles football team and walks to the lake with Labrador, Badger.

Music: Michael Buble, Latin Acoustic Guitar, Brandon Heath

Books: Knowledge of the Holy, Ragamuffin Gospel, Just Courage, Calvary Road

Life Verse: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” —Mark 10:45
