Our Leadership

Brad Franklin – Lead Pastor

Brad Franklin is the founding pastor of Lakeside Church. He came to Folsom in 1987 as a church planter and began Lakeside with a telemarketing campaign. His ministry has been blessed and Lakeside continues to grow steadily offering several Sunday worship gatherings. He leads a team of dedicated pastors and ministry directors. Lakeside relocated to the present 28-acre site in Folsom in September of 2001.

Before coming to Folsom, Brad served as a missionary in the Philippines, and in churches in Portland, Oregon and Scotts Valley, California. He received his Bachelors Degree in Religious Studies from Westmont College, Masters of Divinity Degree in Pastoral Ministry from Western Seminary and completed his Doctor of Ministry from Bethel Seminary in June 2002.

Brad belongs to the Folsom Chamber of Commerce and is active in the annual National Day of Prayer Breakfast.

Brad and his wife, Donna, are the parents of three children – Breck, Bryce, and Bethany. When not at work, Brad plays men’s softball, runs occasionally in various competitions, plays hysterically bad golf and even jumped out of a plane (with a parachute).

Brad has established the mission of Lakeside Church as transforming as many people as possible into passionate and productive followers of Jesus. He is leading the people of Lakeside in reaching up to God in worship, reaching out to neighbors in the community and reaching in to others within the church.

Jeff Kreiser – Pastor of Outreach & Extension

Jeff was born in New York and moved to San Jose, CA when he was nine years old. He enjoyed growing up in a church-going family, but personally received Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior while attending camp at the age of 13.

Since that time, Jeff has enjoyed an amazing adventure following Jesus into youth ministry, small group development, church planting and most recently developing a unique regional church planting ministry called The ARM Network.

Jeff is thrilled to join the Lakeside team and his heart is to reach the lost in our community and to the ends of the earth through various means including helping people share their personal faith stories to starting new faith communities. Another passion of Jeff’s is to help Lakeside continue to be a resource to other ministries in the region who also want to be “world-changers” by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ!

Jeff and his wife Heather met while attending Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and have been married since 1991. They enjoy their primary ministry of parenting three boys. Jeff is passionate about his family, devours books, is most inspired while backpacking above tree line equipped with a pen and journal, gets a rush out of March Madness every year (still has a dream to attend a NCAA Final Four tournament), and appreciates fine art…Star Wars, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Braveheart to name a few!!

Jim Price – Pastor of Adult Ministries

Jim was born in Pasadena, California. Raised in a Christian family, he committed his life to Christ at the age of twelve.

Jim attended the University of Redlands and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving as an officer in the field artillery. While in the military, Jim met his wife Peggy during her senior year in college. Two weeks after their wedding in 1969, Jim received his orders for Viet Nam. Consequently, they spent most of their first year of marriage apart.

Upon his release from active duty, Jim and Peggy moved to Colorado where Jim used his GI Bill to earn a Master of Divinity Degree from Denver Seminary and a Master of Science Degree in Geology from Colorado State University. For the next twelve years, Jim worked with the Colorado Geological Survey as an engineering geologist and then with Amoco Production Company as an exploration geologist. While working full time, Jim served as pastor of a small country church on the eastern plains of Colorado.

During their years living in Colorado, they raised three daughters, Christina, Jamie, and Aimee. At the age of forty-two, Jim and Peggy both felt that God was calling them to move back to California and begin a new church in Rohnert Park, a relatively new and growing community in Sonoma County. After serving this congregation for almost 20 years, Jim and Peggy felt God calling them to begin a new ministry to senior adults at Lakeside Church.

Jim loves to spend time with his family, which includes his three daughters, two son-in-laws, and five grandchildren. He loves to walk on the beach with Peggy and camp with the family near Lake Tahoe. In addition to football and lemon meringue pie, Jim loves to visit and share with others the ruins of the ancient biblical sites in Israel, Turkey, and Greece.

Jim’s passion is to increasingly model the character of Christ, to help other believers become authentic and contagious followers of Christ, and to effectively communicate the good news of God’s redeeming love to those who do not yet know Him. His favorite passage of Scripture comes from Paul’s letter to Titus, “But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and the renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior” (Titus. 3:4-6).

Chris Baltzley – Director of Lakeside Orangevale

As Director of Multi-Campus Development, Chris has come on staff to help us become One Lakeside Church – Multiple Locations. Our goal is to give more and more people in our region exposure and access to Jesus through a live, loving community of his followers.

Chris grew up in nearby Carmichael, California. After attending college in Michigan, he received a B.S. in Biblical Studies from Multnomah Bible College and a Masters degree in Intercultural Studies from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon. While serving in youth ministry, Chris met and quickly married his wife Tara. Since then, they have partnered with a variety of ministries around the world. While in Oregon, they worked with international students and Soviet bloc immigrants. During those Portland years, they also lived as residential managers for Raphael House — an organization working with abused women and children.

Beginning in 1995, they lived for nine years in Kyrgyzstan in former Soviet Central Asia, focusing primarily on community development and the establishment of house churches among the Kyrgyz people. They feel very privilegedto have had the opportunity to interact with and learn from believing Muslim-background and mission leaders from all over the world, including India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Turkey, Egypt, as well as the countries of Central Asia.

They have most recently returned from two and half years in New Zealand, where they served in leadership with International Student Ministries of New Zealand, an organization serving and advocating for recent immigrants and refugees, as well as international students. While in New Zealand, Chris presented seminars on supporting Middle Eastern / Muslim students to university staff and received certification as a trainer in ExcelL Intercultural Skills Program, a program that provides people new to a culture with the tools to build effective intercultural social relationships for educational and career success.

They have had a significant relationship with Lakeside Church; Lakeside on Mission is proud to have partnered with them for 13 years, during their time in both Kyrgyzstan and New Zealand.

Chris and Tara have two fantastic daughters, Asia (1993) and Maia (1997).

Carl Rettinger – Director of Middle School Ministry

Many words have been used to describe Carl, but we’ve chosen not to use those here, instead, we’ll just give you the facts. He was raised among the orchards and computer nerds pioneers of Silicon Valley. As an “active” child, his parents used sports to try and exhaust him, so they could sleep at night (what goes around, comes around).

Carl’s religious confusion began early by going to a Lutheran school, and attending a Catholic church. After 10 years as an alter boy, a promising career as a priest was cut short by his realization that priests can’t marry. So he sought other means to serve God.

In high school, a group of friends invited Carl to check out Young Life (an interdenominational organization of crazy people who love Jesus and students), and he was hooked on youth ministry. He began helping out with junior high ministry, ministry to physically and mentally challenged students, and, in college, was a youth intern.

Soon after graduating from Chico State, Carl was fortunate very fortunate to marry his college sweetheart, Laura. They moved to Los Gatos, where he was the interim youth minister at the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos. After one glorious year there, they ran as fast as they could back to their old college jobs as Julie and Isaac on the Love Boat (if you’re a middle school student – ask your parents), and spent 3 more years running the children’s and youth programs for Norwegian Cruise Line.

For some strange reason, they ended this idyllic dream job to move to Portland, Oregon to guide white water rafting and rock climbing trips for an outdoor ministry. Carl quickly enrolled Laura in the Masters in Teaching program at George Fox University, so that at least one of them would have a real job.

After a couple long, dark, wet years in the Northwest, Carl received a phone call from Journey Church in Folsom (isn’t there a prison there?) Through a series of circumstances that only God is smart enough to finagle, he ended up taking the Youth Pastor role there in September 1998.

In 2004, Carl jumped into the Real Estate cesspool, er industry, as a mortgage planner and started attending Lakeside Church with his better half and his three sons. During a mission trip to Africa with Lakeside’s Ikon students in 2007, he thought to himself, “Self, you were created to work with students – so do it.” Over about a year and a half of praying, searching, and thinking – he ended up right here at Lakeside, working with middle school students in the church and in the community that he knows and loves.

Carl’s vision is to build a healthy, solid ministry that equips parents and leaders to partner in transforming students into passionate, productive followers of Christ. He also believes the most important thing he does is to equip and encourage parents, leaders, and students to live more fully for Christ and pass that on to everyone around them.
